5 Myths About a Boudoir Photoshoot!

1. I need to lose weight.

This is probably the #1 excuse that I hear from women who are inquiring about doing a boudoir shoot with me. Let me tell you, there is not a perfect size to do boudoir. Any size girl can do a boudoir shoot! And I have photographed women of all shapes and sizes.

The thing about boudoir photography is that it is about appreciating what you've got and showing off your best features.  I want you to feel super sexy no matter what your weight, so I am happy to help you choose outfits and give suggestions that will help you look and feel your best.  As a plus size woman myself, I realize how hard it can be to take off your clothes and flaunt your stuff in front of a total stranger, but I am there to help you and guide you from the beginning. You are not on your own in this. I will pose you, light you, and dress you so you are your most fabulous.

Since I have been photographing people for over a decade, I am skilled with posing all body types. Maybe you are heavier than you'd like, maybe you think your boobs are too small, whatever your hang up is, we will work through it together.

2. Boudoir is porn/dirty.

A quick take around my website should be enough to convince you that boudoir photography most definitely is NOT porn. There are even no rules that you have to be nude. Boudoir is just a sexier style of photography, most often in lingerie. There's lingerie that covers more than swimsuits sold at the local department store. :) Sure, if you want to get naked, go for it. If you are looking for something sweet and demure, that is totally fine too. I want my images to not only be sexy, but also tasteful and classy. We can do whatever you want to do, but ultimately, my goal is to make you look stunningly beautiful, never trashy.

3. I am too old.

Are you too old to feel sexy? No way! I have had clients into their late 60s in for shoots. Most of my clients are in their mid-thirties and higher to begin with. I love giving these clients the opportunity to really see themselves for how beautiful they truly are. A lot of times a woman of this age are lost in taking care of kids and home and career, and taking the time to invest in herself is absolutely crucial. I promise you, there is no better confidence booster than seeing yourself in your boudoir images and thinking, "Damn, I still got it!"

4. I don't have anything to wear.

Well go shopping then. Just kidding (not really) but you don't have to go shopping. Most women likely have everything they need for a boudoir shoot in their wardrobe right now. There are no rules. Sure, lingerie; bra and panty sets are always good. What about bringing his favorite team jersey or work shirt? Think outside the box, swimsuit covers, bathing suits, a lace slip, a robe, an old t-shirt, cut off jeans, his leather jacket. There are endless things that are sexy and unique. Peek around your house and see what you can find. I bet you already have everything you need. But, if you want to go shopping, I'm not going to stop you.

5. I would be too uncomfortable.

I laugh when I tell someone that I am a boudoir photographer and they laugh while exclaiming, "I could never do that!"  Why? Why couldn't you? Anyone can do a boudoir shoot. Most clients specifically tell me that they 1. Had fun. 2. Forgot they were in their skivvies.  By photographing hundreds of women in their underwear, I can tell you, I am not judging you. I am only concentrating on the very best things about you to make them shine. We will probably talk about silly stuff like cooking, or cats, or the final season of Mad Men and you will forget to be uncomfortable.  And when you see your images, you will be so comfortable and thrilled, you'll actually show them to other people. It happens all the time. :D
